Turmeric Energiser Juice

Turmeric is the queen pin-up spice of Ayurveda and has a long history in herbal medicine across the globe as a remedy for many ailments and chronic conditions. Jam packed with the bio-active compound curcumin, this well-known antioxidant is used to lower inflammation, manage diabetes, heal wounds, manage infections including acne, lower blood pressure, and treat mild pains. Plus the other ingredients in this super juice - ginger, celery, cucumber, carrot and lemon - make this a vital health immune-boosting health tonic.

Ingredients

1 cucumber, peeled if not organic

1 carrot, green top removed, washed

2 sticks of celery, washed

2 ½ cm chunk of fresh ginger

½ lemon, no skin

Turmeric; fresh, powder or turmeric paste. Either:

- 1 ½ cm piece of fresh organic turmeric

- 1 tsp. organic turmeric powder + ¼ tsp ground black pepper

- 1-2 teaspoons turmeric paste turmeric paste

Method

Juice all ingredients except turmeric together.

Add your choice of turmeric and blend in.

Add a generous splash of filtered boiled water to bring up to room temperature or a lovely warmth.

Drink in this golden goodness!

NOTE

A small shot of pure turmeric juice (up to 100 ml) is usually safe for all to consume. If you are combining it with other ingredients, you may increase it to 200 ml, though it is not recommended you drink it every day to avoid stomach distress.

Ensure the drink is not cold to drink - coldness dampens your digestive fire. Add a splash of filtered warm water for easy digestion

The benefits of ingredients:

Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, digestive, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, detoxifier (metabolised toxins and eliminates them), anti-arthritic (eases arthritic pain and supports joint health) anti-cancer, expels poisons, stimulates the liver and is also an excellent blood purifier and skin tonic.

Cucumber helps mellow the summer heat; it’s cooling, hydrating (quenches thirst), alkalising, cleansing, purifies the blood and soothes the throat. It’s cooling, soothing and diuretic nature aids urinary, bladder and kidney function by helping to flush wastes through the kidney and dissolve uric acid accumulation. Combine with fresh mint or coriander to enhance its cooling effect.

Carrot is cooling, strongly alkalizing and has a mild bitter taste that purifies the blood, is relaxing on the eyes, improves vision and makes skin noticeably softer, smoother and firmer. Carrot juice has a mild pungency that’s stimulating & exhilarating; this ‘tiny ginseng’ increases your energy/ Prana.

Celery stimulates and improves digestion; its roughage scrapes away excess mucus that may be plaguing your digestive tract. It’s alkalizing and has a cleansing action by burning up toxins while building the digestive fire, Agni. It’s a strong diuretic, detoxifying stagnant water weight in Kapha individuals. Lowers BP.

Ginger, pungent and light, fresh ginger invigorates the whole system. It strengthens digestion, is anti-inflammatory, stimulates circulation, clears congestion in the upper respiratory tract, including the throat, nose and sinuses (anti-histamine properties), cleanses the kidneys and strengthens bowel function. Ginger is exceptional for your immune system, aiding in detoxification and helping you to feel more alive, physically and emotionally!
